Mechanic 2 crashes RF4 on launch if I check for extension updates

What happens:

1. I launched RF4
2. I get the launching/loading window
3. I get a prompt: "Mechanic would like to check for updates." Later / Now
4. I click Now, and it looks like Mechanic is checking
5. RF crashes, and I get the "RoboFont quite unexpectedly" message

For what it’s worth, if I click Later and then later open Mechanic to then Check for Updates, it checks and things go fine. If it’s relevant, this is currently happening while I don’t have any extensions with pending updates.

I’m on macOS Catalina 10.15.5.
